Programme

Two weeks to a competition

The whole run counts backwards from the day you compete. Thirteen days of build and taper, then the event itself, then one more day for tagging the moment while it is still fresh.

What it uses

  • Breathe10 days
  • Lock the cue6 days
  • The Hold3 days
  • Quiet Eye4 days
  • Log a moment3 days

Every one of these is a drill the app already has, and each finished action is worth 10 Clutch points exactly as it is anywhere else. The programme changes the order, not the payout.

Start it

We count the whole fortnight back from that day, so the taper lands the evening before and the moment log lands the morning after. We keep the date on this device and schedule nothing off it.

Day by day

Missing a day does not fail anything. The run is keyed to the calendar, so it simply moves on to the next one.

  1. Day 1.Set the baselineThree minutes at six breaths a minute, and take the reading at both ends. That is the whole of day one.Breathe · 1 thing to tick
  2. Day 2.Breath, then the cueRun the breathing first and Lock the cue straight after it. The order you rehearse now is the order you will reach for on the day.Breathe · Lock the cue · 2 things to tick
  3. Day 3.Sharpen the triggerSixteen reps of The Hold, and then Lock the cue on the back of it. This is the heaviest reaction day of the fortnight. The Hold · Lock the cue · 2 things to tick
  4. Day 4.Breath, then the long lookThe same opening as day two, with Quiet Eye on the end of it. Keep the gap between the two of them short.Breathe · Quiet Eye · 2 things to tick
  5. Day 5.Tag one from practiceLog a moment from a training session rather than a competition, so the form is familiar by the time it matters.Log a moment · 1 thing to tick
  6. Day 6.The full setBreathing, a focus drill and a round of The Hold, all inside the same day. Nothing after today is heavier than this.Breathe · Lock the cue · The Hold · 3 things to tick
  7. Day 7.One week outRun the breathing first and the long look after it, in the order you have been using all week. A week from today you compete.Breathe · Quiet Eye · 2 things to tick
  8. Day 8.Hold your nerveThe Hold again, and Lock the cue behind it. The window you have to fire in tightens as you climb the pressure levels, so this round can run faster than day three did.The Hold · Lock the cue · 2 things to tick
  9. Day 9.Breath and the long lookSame pairing as day seven and the same order as well. Nothing gets added to it today.Breathe · Quiet Eye · 2 things to tick
  10. Day 10.Tag another oneLog a second moment from practice, so tagging is a habit rather than something you are working out on the day.Log a moment · 1 thing to tick
  11. Day 11.The last full runBreath and a focus drill, run end to end at full length. From tomorrow the volume comes down.Breathe · Lock the cue · 2 things to tick
  12. Day 12.Shorter, same orderThe same sequence you have run all fortnight, only shorter. Two days out, the work behind you is already done and today is upkeep.Breathe · Quiet Eye · 2 things to tick
  13. Day 13.TaperOne breath session and one focus drill. Nothing heavier than that goes in today, and nothing new either.Breathe · Lock the cue · 2 things to tick
  14. Day 14.Competition dayEvent dayOne breath session in the hour before you go. The programme wants nothing else from you today, so the rest of it is yours.Breathe · 1 thing to tick
  15. Day 15.Log it while it is freshTag the moment today, whichever way it went. The ones that did not land are the ones worth having, because a pattern needs both.Log a moment · 1 thing to tick
